26 October Meetup – WordPress Tricks and Treats

10 October 2013 By WPORL Leave a Comment

This month we’re going to give you some neat tricks to improve your site and skills. Will is going to be giving an intro developer talk (some coding required!), while Jean will be sharing some content creation and business skills that he’s learned at Florida Bloggers Conference this year. We’ve also got treats! Expect some seasonal baked goodies, as well as some other fun. Want to dress up in a fun costume? There may just be some prizes for the best ones!

9:00 – 9:30 – Networking

9:30 – 10:15 – Will Johnson – I am planning on giving a demo on how to create custom page types and how to set a custom page type as a static home page.

Altogether, I hope to give a demo that will teach some of the core concepts of theme development and display how you can use meta boxes and custom renderers to create custom pages.

10:15 – 11:30 – Networking, group discussion, flash talk

11:30 – 12:15 – Jean Perpillant – Last month I attended the Florida Bloggers Conference hosted at Full Sail University. This conference was an all day event on a Saturday and this was the third consecutive year that Bess Auer put it together. Being my first time in attendance I wasn’t sure what all to expect, but I was eager to go. The sessions were plenty, about 4 to choose from each hour. They ranged from talks about social media, media kits, making money as a blogger, SEO, and more.

I think one of the better parts of this conference was that most of the speakers were all local or at least working in Florida. Not to say that they weren’t hugely successful in their own rights, but to say that it was inspiring to see how humble they were and from a market that seems less tech being Florida.

Please note: There will be another race downtown on the 26th. Keep that in mind when driving over, and take Colonial to Orange to get to IDEAS, as opposed to trying to drive up North through downtown.
